Corfu has no shortage of historic buildings where visitors can explore the city’s artistic and cultural heritage. Once the grand homes of nobility, many have been turned into museums or galleries, while others that remain private residences offer guided tours. Some have even been transformed into hotels, inviting guests to immerse themselves in Corfu’s storied past while experiencing its timeless allure. To meaningfully achieve this, it is imperative that they seamlessly straddle heritage and modernity—a delicate balancing act that few manage successfully. The 10-room The Calliston is one of them.

The Calliston stands proudly on the front row of the famous coastline of Mouragia, which defines the historic centre of the city and connects the Old Venetian Fortress with the New Fortress. As one approaches the port of Corfu by sea, one is impressed by the hundreds of buildings of Venetian architecture that make up an amazing colourful mosaic. The Calliston is prominently located above the sea and the city wall and just a few steps from Spianada Square, the Venetian Forts, the Church of St. Spyridon and the Palace of Saints Michael and George. The ideally decorated suites offer views of the Ionian Sea and the island of Vidos, while the Deluxe rooms overlook the picturesque alleys of the Old Town, the neighbouring buildings and their rooftops.
Meticulously restored, this 1820 residence reveals an extraordinary confluence of artistic flair throughout the hotel’s common areas and bar, where spaces have been crafted to merge Venetian grandeur with contemporary sophistication. At the same time, the guestrooms and suites have been thoughtfully infused with a harmonious blend of bespoke craftsmanship and modern elegance.
The result is a boutique hotel that doesn’t just preserve history but elevates it — transforming a centuries-old residence into a vibrant, living monument to design and culture.
